Masked Man Invades Elementary School: Gives out Money
Earlier this month 160 fifth graders at Havard Elementary, of Galena Park ISD, in Houston got a surprise they didn’t expect. They were gathered to learn about careers, when a masked man burst into the auditorium. Counselors and teachers on hand kept the room calm because they knew who he was and why he was there. The masked man was Captain Super Saver from PrimeWay Federal Credit Union, there to teach students important money management skills.
After stressing the importance of an education, Captain Super Saver taught them basic principles about money with enthusiasm. Students learned more than just how to spend money, they explored concepts like knowing the difference between needs and wants, setting goals, and saving for those goals. After giving out fake $100 bills to each kid, the students deposited their “money” in Captain Super Saver’s full-size, fully-functional mobile credit union. Then, the students learned how to write checks to spend some of the money they deposited. Some students even received real money toward their first car. Captain Super Saver made a lasting impression on the students. Havard counselor and coordinator of the event, Ms. Joycelyn Tatum remarked that every school could benefit from Captain Super Saver because the “wonderful hands-on presentation was just outstanding. All the materials, power-point, level of understanding exemplified the epitome of a well rounded, ’Customer Representative.’ PrimeWay FCU is true to their logo, ‘Our prime interest is YOU!’”
